NDL 148: Creosote Bush
Water Collection via Hairs and Hydrophobicity
Water Collection via Hairs and Hydrophobicity
Form - Forma,Process - Proceso
The creosote bush pulls water from the air by using hairs on leaves and gravity to guide water to roots.
The bush collects water vapor from the arid desert. Water condenses on its microscopic hairs and moves with gravity down its resin-covered surfaces. Engineers may be inspired to design water collection systems or easy-to-clean surfaces.
